LG OPTIMUS 2X


The LG Optimus 2X is a smartphone designed and manufactured by LG Electronics. The Optimus 2X is the world's first smartphone with a dual-core processor and third phone in the LG Optimus-Android series. LG debuted the Optimus 2X on December 16, 2010 and the device first became available to consumers in South Korea in January 2011.It was also launched in Singapore on March 3, 2011.The Optimus 2X runs the Android 2.3 software stack since an upgrade that rolled out November 2011.


The LG Optimus 2X holds the Guinness World Record for being the first mobile phone to use a dual-core processor. It's also the first smartphone to feature the Nvidia Tegra 2,a dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz. Has a 4 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, 16M colours at 480×800 pixels. It is capable of recording 1080p HD video capture and playback, a micro HDMI port and an 8 megapixel camera, 512 MB RAM (of which 128MB is dedicated to the GPU) and 8 GB internal storage available in this smartdevice. The popular aftermarket Android firmware Cyanogenmod has been developed for the Optimus 2X. Official CyanogenMod support was added in CyanogenMod 7.1.

HTC Sensation


THE HTC Sensation is a smartphone designed and manufactured by HTC Corporation that runs the Android 2.3 Gingerbread software stack.Officially announced by HTC on April 12, 2011, the HTC Sensation was launched by Vodafone in key European markets including the UK on May 19, 2011 and by T-Mobile in the United States on June 12, 2011 (marketed as the HTC Sensation 4G). It was the first official HTC phone to support the HTC Sense 3.0 user interface. The Sensation was code named Pyramid during development.



The device shipped with Android 2.3.3 upgradable to 2.3.4 Gingerbread and includes and HTC Sense 3.0 UI. Some specifications dual-core 1.2GHz, 768 MB RAM with 4GB storage.Display 4.3 in (110 mm) capacitive S-LCD Gorilla glass touch screen with qHD (540×960) resolution at 256.15 PPI. 8 megapixel (3264×2448) with autofocus and dual LED flash, 1080p HD video recording @ 30 frame/s with tap-to-focus and digital zoom. The device is a part of a new generation of HTC phones that have a signed boot loader. As a consequence, the phones have not been rootable, thus denying users administrative rights to their own phones.It is great looking android device. The HTC Sensation was initially released with a locked bootloader. Since announcing on July 10, 2011, all HTC Sensation and Sensation 4G have had its bootloader unlocked due to the overwhelming customer feedback since the device's initial release On July 29, 2011, a tool named Revolutionary was released by AlphaRevX and unrevoked which can enable S-OFF, and subsequently, allow permanent root.Since August 2011, HTC officially allows to unlock HTC Sensation bootloaders at HTCdev.com website. As published on November 7, 2011, HTC has announced on their Facebook page that the HTC Sensation will get an update to Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.0 early in 2012.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10


The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a high end smartphone in the Xperia series designed by Sony Ericsson. It is the first Sony Ericsson smartphone to utilize the Android operating system. The phone was shipped with Android 1.6, but an upgrade to 2.1 was made available starting October 31, 2010, with a gradual international rollout.Originally, Sony Ericsson stated that the X10 would not receive an upgrade to Android 2.2 (Froyo) or beyond but the phone has since received an upgrade to 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) starting July 29, 2011.

The phone features an 8.1 MP camera and a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. Its screen has a widescreen resolution, 480 x 854 pixels, and features a virtual keyboard rather than a physical one. It makes use of HSPA (3G+) for its mobile connection, giving it top download speeds of 7.2 Mb/s.The UX platform features two applications which allow the user to consolidate all of their communications and media, Timescape and Mediascape, respectively.

The Xperia X10 was first revealed on November 3, 2009.It was first released in Japan on April 1, 2010, and has since become the quickest-selling smartphone for NTT DoCoMo.The overall response has been positive for the hardware, camera and screen. There were negative comments about the lack of support for Android 2.1 which were quelled when it was released later that year.

The display is a wide TFT Capacitive touchscreen with a 16:9 aspect ratio and FWVGA resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, along with a multi-touch enabled screen, the first from Sony.The 8.1 megapixel camera features 16x digital zoom, image stabilization, auto-focus, geo-tagging, smile detection, and face detection. It can also record video, with an LED for use in poor light conditions. It has a 3-axis accelerometer and built in GPS.
The hardware is limited in its multi-touch functionality. It can only track multiple touches where their X and Y coordinates are different.The firmware to enable this functionality was first released in Japan.

LG OPTIMUS 3D P920


The LG Optimus 3D, or LG Thrill 4G in the USA, is a Android 2.2 froyo (Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgradeable) 3D mobile device released on 7 July 2011 in the UK and has been touted as the worlds first full 3D mobile phone. It has 512MB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage which can be expanded by up to 32GB using a micro SDHC card. The phone features two 5 MP back facing cameras that are capable of filming 720p 3D and Full HD 1080p in 2D while pictures taken in 2D mode are 5MP and 3MP when taken a 3D picture. It also includes a 1.3MP front facing camera for video calling. The phone also features a 3D user interface which allows the users to access 3D content such as YouTube in 3D, 3D games and apps, 3D gallery with a push of a button.

The LG Optimus 3D showcases LG's "tri-dual" technology: dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory. The LG Optimus 3D receives significant performance benefits as a result of the faster transfer of data between the dual-core and dual-memory. This enables users to browse web pages, multitask between programs, play games at a higher frame rate and enjoy movies more smoothly.
The LG Optimus 3D comes with a range of different 3D applications ranging from the latest games to a 3D Gallery. Unlike its competitor the Evo 3D it has a 3D user interface which enables users to navigate through the features in 3D.
The glasses-free 3D effect is generated by a parallax barrier screen.
On the 15th of November LG announced an enhanced version of Gingerbread customized for the Optimus 3D. LG claims it enriches the 3D experience and adds the ability to do 3D video editing.It is capable of sharing and viewing 3D videos on the large screen, with HDMI 1.4 connection to 3D equipped TVs and monitors and with DLNA Certified compatible products. This allows user to show their own captured 3D content in the widescreen.The Phone Runs on Android 2.2 from stock. It can be updated to Android 2.3.5 although some phones may require a computer to do this.

MOTOROLA PHOTON 4G



The Motorola Photon 4G  is a high end Android-based mobile smartphone that is distributed exclusively by Sprint Nextel. A very similar model based on the same hardware is available as the Motorola Electrify from U.S. Cellular.

The Photon runs a customized interface similar to the standard Android interface (different from Motoblur) with several additions. Motorola provides custom widgets to toggle settings for airplane mode, bluetooth, wireless 4G access (WiMAX 2.5 GHz), and WiFi access as well as resizable widgets for functions such as the calendar, social networking, a world clock and more. The Photon's customized interface has seven home screens and four main onscreen buttons at the bottom of the screen. Of the bottom buttons the left three buttons may be customized to run a program of the user's choosing, while the right-most button opens the app drawer.
Capacitive touch buttons at the bottom of the screen are Menu, Home, Back and Search. Pressing and holding on the Home button brings up a "Recent Apps" view, while double tapping the Home button will either show a thumbnailed view of all seven home screens (default) or, at the user's preference, quick launch a specific function. Also known as Motorola MB855. Some feauture are likes NVIDIA Tegra 2 (dual-core 1 GHz Cortex A9 + GeForce ULP). Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" and 1 GB LP DDR2 RAM with 16 GB Internal memory, expandable by microSD 32 GB, total of 48 GB, 4.3-inch PenTile qHD display (540×960) with Gorilla Glass,8.0 MP with dual LED flash, 4x digital zoom and autofocus, 720p video capture at 30 frame/s

Sony Xperia X8


The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is a mid-range 3G Android smart phone developed by Sony Ericsson in the Xperia series in released in Q4 2010. It is sold in many countries worldwide, including the United States on AT&T Mobility and low-end pay-monthly contracts in the UK. It originally shipped running Android 1.6 but was upgraded in early 2011 to Android 2.1.

The phone has a 3.0-inch (76 mm) capacitive touch screen LCD. It has a resolution of 320 by 480 pixels (HVGA) with 24-bit depth. At the back is a 3.2 megapixel camera with fixed focus. The photos can be geotagged. The camera can be accessed either through the touchscreen menu or by the camera button on the side of the phone. The Xperia X8 uses a Qualcomm MSM7227 600 MHz processor, has a 3-axis accelerometer and built-in GPS, a digital compass, an ambient light sensor and a lug for attaching a strap.
Multi-touch support was also added to several aftermarket firmware versions (ROMS) which enabled users to use basic multitouch gestures such as pinch to zoom, something that Sony Ericsson was adamant was impossible on the X8.
Sony Ericsson has made its own custom overlay on top of the Android system using an optimized version of the UX (user experience) interface, which consists of design elements, themes and custom applications. The four corners of the screen have replaceable shortcuts for commonly used applications. The main application is Sony Ericsson Timescape, a social networking application that combines messages from Facebook, Twitter, SMS and email into a flowing column on the home screen. Photos may be attached to contacts or sent to a Facebook account. The phone contains expected smartphone applications as well as: Wisepilot Navigation Software, Google Maps, YouTube, Sony's PlayNow Arena and TrackID (to identify a song by recording a small part of it).
Sony Ericsson was widely criticized by X8 users for failing to provide Android firmware upgrades to 2.2(Froyo) or 2.3(Gingerbread), who later stated that the phone's hardware was incapable of running anything beyond 2.1(Eclair). Surprisingly, they were proven wrong by the Android modding community, who released their own versions of Android 2.2 and 2.3 in subsequent months which ran quite stably on the X8.

Samsung Nexus Vision

Rawad Semaan sent me his design, the Samsung Nexus Vision, a concept phone based on the quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and also packing a 12 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and a Super AMOLED display that’s probably 4.5 inches in diagonal and maybe supports 720p HD resolution. I’m speculating on these specs since the designer didn’t reveal too many details.
Samsung Nexus Vision, a Tegra 3 Phone With Nokia N9 Like Design

When I see the Samsung Nexus Vision I instantly think about a combination between the Nokia N9 and the Samsung Galaxy S II for some reason. Get this baby Android Ice Cream Sandwich, some 1080p 60 fps video capture, LTE connectivity, 32GB of internal memory, 2GB of RAM and we’re all set. Of course, I’ve heard people saying that Nvidia Tegra 3 is not the brightest choice when it comes to quad core processors, but I don’t have faith in Intel Medfield or whatever they plan on bringing to the smartphone market.
I think that TI OMAP is the kind of CPU you want to get on a smartphone nowadays or even the Exynos quad core unit that everyone is dreaming about. What about you? All of you phone designers and aficionados, which CPU do you like the most for 2012′s phones?
